Defense Issues

One common issue found among Republicans and Democrats, Liberals and Conservatives, and even independents is the desire for a strong national defense.  As a former airman Ron Paul actively works in congress to ensure a strong military and a secure country.

War with Iran

“Ron Paul is one of the outstanding leaders fighting for a stronger national defense. As a former Air Force officer, he knows well the needs of our armed forces, and he always puts them first. We need to keep him fighting for our country.” – Ronald Reagan

Since World War 2 the United States of America has not waged a single declared war.  Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq and everything in-between have been waged without the official declaration of war.  To our founders Declarations of War were required to both provide meaning to conflicts and, in a large sense, to limit conflicts.  War should never be sought for and should never be enjoyed.  War destroys a nation's wealth and, far worse, rips apart families as mothers and fathers are forced to bury their sons and daughters.

It is disappointing to realize Ron Paul is the only candidate who doesn't seek a war with Iran.  As a member of the Nuclear Proliferation Treaty, Iran is entitled to provide nuclear power to its citizens - in fact, Iranian leaders have sought Nuclear Power before the Islamic Revolution!  A war with Iran is unreasonable and unnecessary.  We are better defended and more secure as a country with our troops here at home.

Overseas Empire

Hundreds of thousands of our fighting men and women have been stretched thin all across the globe in over 135 countries – often without a clear mission. - Ron Paul

A relic of the Cold War era, our overseas empire affords no protection to the United States and our allies.  The capabilities of our military have grown to the point where our presence overseas is no longer necessary.

Only Ron Paul understands that a strong military doesn't come from an overbearing overseas presence.  In fact, quite the opposite occurs.  By sending our soldiers overseas, we diminish the our ability to defend our borders and protect our cities from attack.

The amount of money spend maintaining our overseas empire reaches into the billions of dollars each year.  Money spent on leasing bases, moving equipment, and local contractors could be spent here, creating American jobs.
